Is it possible to lose weight and detoxify the body by going on a maple syrup diet? The maple syrup and lemonade diet has reportedly helped Beyonce lose weight, and with much success. But how is that possible?

It certainly seems too good to be true. Apparently Beyonce was able to lose 20 pounds in 14 days using this diet when prepping for her role in the smash hit Dreamgirls.

The lemonade detox diet, also called the Master Cleanse, was created in 1941 by Stanley Burroughs. Many people across the world have used the diet with varying degrees of success, including celebrities such as Angelina Jolie, Jared Leto, Gwyneth Paltrow, and David Blaine.

The diet drink consists of grade B maple syrup, lemon juice, cayenne pepper, and water and is to be consumed six to 12 times a day. The drink isn’t the only way to lose the weight; it’s only one component of the Master Cleanse.

Herbal laxatives and a salt-water flush are the other two pieces to this detox diet, though the lemonade diet can be used alone as a diet itself where you drink only this mixture for up to 14 days.

Lemonade Diet Recipe (single serving)

– 1/2 lemon (or 2 tbsp lemon juice)
– 1–2 tbsp pure grade B maple syrup (1 tbsp recommended for weight loss)
– 1/10 tsp cayenne pepper (red) or to taste
– 8 oz purified water

Before considering attempting Beyonce’s diet, it’s best to discuss it with a doctor because a fasting diet that consists of only liquids can be dangerous for some people with certain health conditions.

The diet will help you lose weight fast, because you are basically drinking sugar water, but as with most diets once you start eating real food again, the weight will return. It’s best to opt for a clean diet loaded with fruits, vegetables, grains, and lean proteins complemented by regular daily exercise to ensure good health and weight.

Drinking water with maple syrup and lemons to make a diet lemonade will only provide roughly 500 calories if nine drinks are consumed in a day. The average recommended daily caloric intake for women is 2,000, so this is by all definitions a crash diet and can be potentially dangerous.

The body is a self-detoxifying system and does so naturally through the liver and kidneys, so there is no need to force the matter because it all happens internally, automatically. While incorporating lemon water into your morning ritual could be a great way to boost liver efficiency, there’s no need to make it the only source of nourishment in a day. So unless you need to prep for a film role as Beyonce felt she needed to, stick to a healthy diet instead.
