Yoga has to be one of the trendiest exercises at the moment. Practicing yoga can do everything from help reduce stress to improve strength—so it’s no wonder that celebrities all over are making yoga a part of their workout routines. Chris Pine, Miranda Kerr, Christina Aguilera, Kate Middleton, Lena Headey, and Julianne Hough are just some of the big names who have made yoga a staple in their lives.
Let’s take a look at this week’s stories about the many celebrities who have embraced yoga and all of its benefits.
Actor Chris Pine, who stars in the newly released Hell or High Water and led this summer’s blockbuster Star Trek Beyond, does two opposite but equally strengthening activities to keep his body in amazing shape: yoga and boxing.
Though the Hell or High Water role didn’t require an exceptionally pumped up or well-defined form, Pine still looked incredible playing one of two brothers who repeatedly rob the bank threatening to foreclose on their family land. He likes the seemingly opposing workouts because he says they help him stay close to his fighting weight.
Pine’s trainer, Mark Wildman, set the actor up with a specific routine for getting him into Starfleet shape, a form he presumably kept when he started filming Hell or High Water. The actor’s physique has been fairly consistent throughout much of his career.
Unlike most actors in Hollywood, Pine has had no desire to build really large muscles and prefers more “contiguous muscles” that are “more natural,” says Wildman.
One of the fitness activities Wildman planned for Pine utilized Clubbells, bowling pin–shaped weights that are lifted and maneuvered much like kettlebells. Users swing the weight in a number of ways and different movements, depending on the muscles that need to be targeted.
The motion strengthens muscles and surrounding connective tissue. Clubbells are hard to find in many gyms, so the exercises can be done with a common dumbbell as well.
Victoria’s Secret Model Miranda Kerr Committed to Yoga and Strict Sugar-Free Diet
Victoria’s Secret model Miranda Kerr is committed to yoga and follows a strict sugar-free, gluten-free diet.
If you’re looking for Kerr’s bikini body secrets, look no further. Here is what it takes for the mother and model to continue to look her best and stay runway ready.
From protein shakes, to Pilates, to her morning workout, we’ll outline everything the model goes through to maintain her stunning figure.
Kerr prefers to workout in the morning and tries to get at least 30 minutes of yoga a day. In between yoga sessions, Kerr will either do Pilates or strength-training exercises with resistance bands to help keep her muscles elongated and lean.
For Kerr, variety is key when it comes to her workouts. Sometimes she’ll even get her son involved—while she holds a plank, he’ll dance around her with music playing.
A typical day for Kerr starts off with hot water and lemon followed by a green juice. Her green juice often contains kale, spinach, cucumbers, and celery: Kerr suggests this is her bikini body secret. Her breakfast consists of eggs or avocado on gluten-free toast, and her after breakfast snack includes chia seeds, goji berries, and a raw cocoa smoothie.
Christina Aguilera’s energetic performances are a result of her healthy lifestyle and vigorous workouts. She shed 46 pounds after her most recent pregnancy thanks to a five-day-per-week energetic workout and a low carb diet.
Aguilera practices Yogalosophy by Mandy Ingber, which balances the body, mind, and emotions. Aguilera also exhibited her 46-pound, low-carb weight loss on Instagram.
Aguilera hired a personal trainer and planned a low carbohydrate diet with her personal chef to get in shape.
Aguilera’s diet comprises lean protein like chicken and fish. It also incorporates aspects of low-carbohydrate regimens like the ketogenic, Atkins, and Paleo diets. Six days a week, Aguilera consumes a 1,800-calorie diet of proteins, veggies, and whole grains.
Once a week she has candy, chili cheese fries, chicken wings, nachos, and cookies like Oreos. “I’m not into depriving myself; I limit the bad foods that I like,” Aguilera told Us Weekly.
Aguilera says the secrets to her weight loss are her dedication to yoga, a healthy diet, and a commitment to achieve her targets. Her nearly 90-minute workout starts with a 40-minute interval training session on the treadmill or elliptical machine. She also does 40 minutes of toning exercises like chest presses, bicep curls, push-ups, and lunges. She also spends extra time at the gym with her personal trainer, Tee Sorge.
Kate Middleton, mother of two, looks adorable at the age of 34 on the cover of British Vogue’s June edition. What is Kate Middleton’s weight loss secret post pregnancy?
Kate Middleton’s slim body is due to a low-carb diet and a regular workout routine. Since her marriage to Prince William, Duke of Cambridge, in 2011, Kate Middleton has emerged as a beauty and fitness icon due to her slim physique and chic style.
The Duchess of Cambridge dropped 29 pounds after the birth of her son George on July 24, 2013. And Kate Middleton once again regained her slender body about two months after she gave birth to daughter Charlotte on May 2, 2015.
Kate Middleton hates diets and insists on a healthy low-carb lifestyle instead. Middleton’s weight loss is credited to low-carb, high-fat, and high-protein diets like the Atkins and ketogenic diets that are designed to fuel rapid weight loss and induce the body to burn fat as a fuel source. Her diet includes low-carb foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, healthy juices, and lean meats.
Limiting her carbohydrate intake can lead to several health benefits. A low-carb and high-protein diet will also boost metabolism, increase muscle mass, suppress appetite, and reduce inflammation and the risk of type 2 diabetes.
Game of Thrones star Lena Headey, who plays Cersei Lannister, may have lost out on the Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in 2015, but she had social media buzzing over how phenomenal she looked after having just given birth to her second child.
The actress is a huge devotee of yoga and boxing, so it’s really no surprise that she was able to drop the baby weight by following her regular fitness regime. Some believe that being in shape before pregnancy can help with weight loss afterwards, and it’s certainly true for this actor and mother of two.
The actor took up boxing and became obsessed with it, going every day when she wasn’t working. She says it’s an insane sport once you get into it, and jokingly added that she was doing it long before the movie Million Dollar Baby.
She loves boxing because it’s physically challenging and allows her to get out any pent-up aggression. Boxing teaches hand-eye coordination, balance, and is a superior cardiovascular activity. The more advanced moves also build muscle in the arms and legs.
Headey—who also starred in the movie 300—may have a strict workout routine, but the same might not be true of her diet.
Derek Hough’s Sister Julianne Hough Maintains Fit Bikini Body with Cardio Dance Workouts, Yoga, and Diet
Julianne Hough of Dancing with the Stars—whose brother Derek Hough is a pro dancer on the reality TV competition—has one of the best bodies in the business.
So what’s her secret? Her diet is clean: she eats plenty of fruits and veggies, keeps carbs to a minimum, indulges in high-protein foods, and even enjoys some alcohol and sugar on occasion.
As a professional dancer, and as someone who has been training since she was young and dancing competitively since age nine, the Julianne Hough dance workout is what helps keep her in incredible shape. Dancing is a fantastic way to keep legs strong and toned, abs firm, and improve cardio.
A Julianne Hough Instagram video recently showcased the dancer emerging from a pool in a bikini, showing off her toned abs and tiny frame. She looks skinnier than in previous years because, according to reports, she lost 20 pounds in 2012 and has kept the weight off by following a portion-controlled diet and engaging in yoga, dancing, and cardio exercises.
The Julianne Hough weight loss and weight-maintenance success comes from hard work and dedication to a regular workout schedule that is varied. She runs most days for 45 minutes and also does crunches, lunges, and arm moves every day because dancing doesn’t typically target those areas of the body very well.
