Dr. Oz: Eat Avocados for Their Numerous Health Benefits

Benefits of Avocado Oil

Dr. Oz is famous for his health advice and tips, but now the celebrity doctor is recommending a new health treatment: avocados!

On Tuesday, Dr. Oz tweeted about the powerful benefits of avocados, as part of a healthy diet or even in a beauty regimen. His tweet also included a link to a recent segment from his show, where dietician Frances Largeman-Roth shared her avocado smoothie recipe, which makes it easy to get the health benefits of avocados when you’re on-the-go.

For people who are more curious about Dr. Oz’s claims, they may want to know that a lot of research has confirmed the numerous health benefits of avocados.

In fact, one study found that there was a significant association between eating avocados and better diet quality, increased nutrient intake, and a lower risk of metabolic syndrome.

Metabolic syndromes are a cluster of symptoms – such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and obesity – which can lead to heart disease, diabetes, and strokes.

According to the study, people who ate avocados had lower body weight, waste circumferences, and body mass indexes (BMIs), meaning they were less likely to be overweight or obese.

This may surprise some people, as avocados have a high amount of fat, but the fat contained in avocados are healthy monounsaturated and polyunsaturated fats. Unlike trans fats, these fats are actually very good for our health.

The study also found that people who ate avocados had a 50 percent lower shot of developing metabolic syndrome. This means they were less likely to have increased blood pressure or high cholesterol levels, among other things.

As well, the people who ate avocados ate more vitamin E, vitamin K, magnesium, potassium, and dietary fiber.

Part of this finding may be that people who eat avocados are more likely to eat vegetables and fruits. However, avocados themselves are a rich source of dietary fiber and nutrients. Avocados contain vitamin C, vitamin B-6, magnesium, and other important nutrients.

So if you want to improve your health, consider giving Dr. Oz’s avocado smoothie a try!
