Emma Watson’s Feminist Twist in “Beauty and The Beast,” Sneak Peek at Actress’s Fitness for Belle Role

Actress Emma Watson first rose to prominence as Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter films from 2001 to 2011. The 26-year-old’s next big acting role has her portraying Belle in the live-action Beauty and The Beast film. Watson follows a unique fitness regimen to prepare for her role as Belle.

What’s unique about Watson’s version of Belle is that she doesn’t wear a corset in the movie. New pictures from the upcoming film show Watson in an exact replica of the iconic yellow dress, similar to the animated version of the film. Watson interprets Belle as an active princess, and didn’t want a corseted dress that would impede her in any way.

Besides the costume update, the film also features a feminist twist to Belle’s backstory, thanks to Watson’s influence. In the Disney animated classic from 1991, Belle’s father is the inventor; however, in the live-action movie, Belle is made into an inventor. Belle created her own washing machine, and instead of doing her laundry, she now has time to read.

Like Belle, Watson is not your average woman. Despite already having a career as a famous actress, Watson graduated from Brown University with a bachelor’s degree in English Literature in 2014.

Emma Watson’s Exercise and Workout Routine

Emma Watson’s intense workout sees her going to the gym five days a week, with her doing 90 minutes during each session. Some of her go-to workouts include Pilates, weightlifting, and running. Pilates allows her to maintain a strong and lean body, while weightlifting boosts her metabolism and has her tone different parts of the body like her abs, back, legs, arms, chest, and shoulders. Running or sprinting is a great cardio exercise that increases muscle mass and stamina while burning calories.
Watson can also be found exercising outdoors. Some of The Perks of Being a Wallflower star’s favorite outdoor activities include hiking, running, swimming, and field hockey. She loves playing sports that make her sweat.

Emma Watson’s Diet and Healthy Lifestyle

The star has also adopted a simple and healthy eating philosophy. She believes that when you’re hungry, you should eat—you should also be treating yourself from time to time.

She prefers a diet that is low in salt and saturated fats, and excludes junk food. Instead, her plate will include lean meats, salads, vegetables, and fruit. That being said, she will have some cheat days where she indulges in bagels, pasta, chocolate, and baked goods. Watson’s diet includes the proper portions of carbs, fiber, and protein. She also tries to stick to five or six smaller meals; however, sometimes her hectic schedule doesn’t allow for that.

Beauty and The Beast will hit U.S. theaters on March 17, 2017. The Beast will be played by Dan Stevens, and the rest of cast includes Luke Evans, Gugu Mbatha-Raw, Ewan McGregor, Emma Thompson, Ian McKellen, Kevin Kline, Stanley Tucci, and Josh Gad.
