When Avengers first hit the big screens, it left Robert Downey’s fans all over the world stunned! The American actor had seriously beefed up for the role and added a personality to the character in ways more than one.
Downey shot to fame instantly after his role as in Iron Man, and was appreciated by people worldwide. After that, there was no turning back for him. He went ahead and did some more brilliant roles, all of which gave the actor an opportunity to highlight his stunning new physique.
Robert Downey is back again with another sequel to the much-awaited action movie series, The Avengers. Their latest addition, Avengers: Infinity War, has Downey donning the Iron Man costume for another meaty role.
With seven hit instalments of Downey Jr. playing Iron man, he promises an even stronger and fitter version of him to his fans. “We have a start date! That’s, you know, when you start shooting,” joked the star at the 4th Annual Make-a-Wish Wishing Well Gala held in Los Angeles.
Downey is yet to start shooting for the part. He however, has just wrapped up his role as the billionaire businessman in the upcoming movie, Spiderman: The Homecoming where he stars opposite Tom Holland. The popular movie series now has Tom Holland starring as Spiderman, following in the footsteps of Andrew Garfield and Tobey Maguire. When asked to reveal some details about the movie, Robert said, “I’m good friends with Toby, so I can’t play favorites here, but that Tom Holland guy is something else,”.
The actor attended the charity event with his wife, Susan Downey, to celebrate his contributions to the fundraiser. “It’s a big fundraising push for them and I’m just hoping that I can get folks to buy tables and show up,” exclaimed Robert.
The official release date for Avengers: The Infinity War is scheduled for May 8, 2018.
Robert Downey’s Fitness Plan
“I’m not particularly tall, strong, fast, or aggressive, but I’m not faking it.”, claims Robert Downey, when questioned if he was intimidated by acting alongside younger, fitter actors. Using the famous Wing Chun technique used by Bruce Lee for training, Downey ensures he follows a disciplined routine when it comes to his diet and workout. However, to bulk up for his Iron Man character, Robert had to resort to some heavy workout sessions in combination with the Wing Chun technique.
Brad Bose, the star’s fitness trainer, says that a cut down on cardio and increase in weight lifting was essential to prepare his fit body. He also focused on Robert’s diet by ensuring he consumes no more than 5,000 calories per day. Months of hard work and dedication finally revealed Robert’s brilliant physique, worthy to carry on the Iron Man title.
For his upper body work out, Downey did Hamstring Curls and Suspension Trainer Lunges, along with other exercises like Kettlebell Swings and Weighted Pull ups for his upper body.
