Walmart Christmas Hours: Open on Christmas Eve, Closed on Christmas Day

With Christmas 2016 coming up fast, many people are scrambling to get everything checked off their to-do list. Yes, it’s all well and good to be super organized and be one of those people who can sit back and snicker at the rest of us who don’t have our ducks in a row, but the fact is that life gets busy and sometimes all we have are those last few hours before the big day. Fear not if this is you because Walmart will stay open until 6 p.m. on Christmas Eve. Christmas opening hours don’t exist because Walmart is closed Christmas Day, so take note.

The retail giant’s 6 p.m. closing time this year is a departure from last year’s 8 p.m. shutdown. Judith McKenna, executive vice-president and chief operating officer, said in a statement: “Our associates work hard all year to make this holiday season special for our customers, and we truly appreciate what they do every day. We also know that getting home on Christmas Eve to spend time with families is important.”

Last-Minute Shopping Possible

We all know someone who saves everything till the last minute. This Saturday is a good day to stay home if you have completed everything on your to-do list because Walmart and other stores will be swarming with last-minute shoppers.

Walmart has almost everything someone could need, even groceries if it is a Walmart Supercenter. This is great for one-stop shopping—deal with one crowd as opposed to three or four. You might want to pack a headache tablet just in case the store is chaotic and full of people who may fight you for the last roll of tape or Hatchimal toy (though those were sold out even online at Walmart earlier this week).

When doing some last-minute shopping on Saturday, it would be wise to have a detailed list that is organized by sections of the store so you don’t have to zigzag about. Efficiency will help you survive this excursion.

And do not take the kids with you. This will only slow you down and add to the stress. Pay whoever needs paying to watch those little tyrants for the few hours you need to get the last bits of shopping done. If you don’t, Christmas might be cancelled—by you.

Best of luck out there, and be sure to wish staff a happy holiday because they are working so you can get that last-minute shopping in. They likely have family they want to see too, so be the one person out there who isn’t cranky. Enjoy the fact that you get to buy things for those you love and then get to go home and spend time with those special people.
