Would You Try Demi Moore’s Raw Food Diet?

Demi-MooreFor celebrity actress Demi Moore, looking young and thin is a priority. And this celebrity attributes her good looks to her raw food diet. Embarking on a raw food diet is no easy feat: it means emptying your diet of meat, dairy, sugar, processed foods, cooked foods, alcohol, nicotine, and caffeine. Instead, on a raw food diet, you eat, as the name suggests, only plant-source, raw foods. On a raw food diet, you’re not allowed to eat those foods that make up the traditional American diet, and instead eat lots of fruits and vegetables, grains, sprouts, nuts, and seeds. The raw food diet is also a vegan diet, so that means no meat, cheese, eggs, or milk, and food must be cooked at specific temperatures to preserve all the nutrients, vitamins, phytonutrients, and protein in the food.

While scientists don’t all agree on the benefits of a raw food diet, many health proponents swear by it. In fact, one film documents the real power of raw food diets. In the film, Simply Raw: Reversing Diabetes in 30 Days, six participants with chronic diabetes embark on a raw food diet to reverse their condition, and end up bringing their blood sugar levels back to normal and eliminating the need for prescription drugs and insulin. According to the film’s team of medical researchers and activists, the raw food diet is the healthiest, natural way of life, since food is eaten as it is grown, without being cooked at high temperatures, which can destroy some of the benefits of those foods. Raw food “is prepared at temperatures less than between 118 degrees Fahrenheit to preserve the natural enzymes, nutrients and the food’s life-force energy from the sun,” according to the film’s press release. “When food is cooked, 50 percent of the protein is lost, 70-80 percent of the vitamins and minerals are lost, and close to 100 percent of the phytonutrients are destroyed.”

Whether Demi Moore’s new celebrity diet is because she’s a proponent of the natural health movement or because she believes it will help her lose weight and stay in shape, we can’t say. But what we do know is that she’s not the only celebrity to lay claim to this diet; Alicia Silverstone and Woody Harrelson are both famous “raw foodies” who adhere to the raw food diet.
